A 21-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh was detained in Surat after allegedly abducting a 17-year-old boy from Gujarat whom she had met on Instagram. The two were intercepted by the Railway Police’s vigilance team at Surat railway station after the boy’s family had filed a missing complaint.
According to officials, the woman and the minor from Virpur in Rajkot district had been in contact on social media for nearly one and a half years. Their online conversations gradually turned into a romantic relationship, and the pair reportedly promised to stay together.
Police said the situation escalated after the woman’s family learned about the relationship and arranged her marriage elsewhere. Determined to remain with the boy, she allegedly left her home on March 6 without informing her family and travelled to Mumbai before reaching Surat with the minor.
Meanwhile, the boy’s family reported him missing, prompting the registration of a kidnapping case and the start of a police investigation. Information gathered during the probe suggested that the minor had left with the woman he had met through social media.
The breakthrough came when the Railway Police’s She-Team was patrolling Platform No. 1 at Surat railway station. Officers noticed the woman and the minor sitting in the general waiting room in a visibly nervous state, which raised suspicion and led to questioning.
During the inquiry, police confirmed the boy’s identity and contacted the authorities in Rajkot. A police team later arrived in Surat, and after completing legal formalities, both the woman and the minor were handed over for further investigation while the boy was reunited with his family.
